In 2015 the British Educational Research Association (BERA) Council approved the introduction of a new special interest group in History. It was launched with an event at UCL Institute of Education in 2016.
The History SIG provides a base for historical research, theories, representations and methodologies in education. It includes, for example, the history of education, biography and life-history; and the history curriculum and representations of history in informal educational settings across life-cycles and societies as well as schools and schooling. It engages with other branches of history while seeking to understand and address inequalities in education and society over the longer term, and will aim to contribute to the research agendas posed in other SIGs across the range of BERA’s work.
The convenors of the BERA History SIG are Heather Ellis (University of Sheffield) and Deborah Sabric (University of Roehampton). They would welcome ideas from BERA members for History SIG activities including plans for the BERA 2018 conference to be held at Northumbria University.
If you would like to join the new BERA History SIG please login to your member profile and join the SIG via your member page.
